Meet Emily

I am a pianist and singer with nearly a decade of music teaching experience. I am passionate about sharing a love for musicianship and performance with every student! I have studied improvisational jazz, accompaniment, musical theatre, and classical music. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, baking French pastry, and family bike rides!

Philosophy

I focus on core elements of musicianship throughout my time with students. We learn music theory, to read music and understand scales, chords, and their uses. We learn good practice skills with coaching and reinforcement at each lesson. We learn fundamentals of piano technique including, posture, ergonomics, rhythm, and playing by ear. Finally, we learn performance skills with opportunities to perform at regular recitals and other community events.

Lessons

I teach piano lessons to students from the age of 6 through adult. Lessons last 30 minutes and cost $40 per session. A weekly cadence is best for school age students. I teach primarily from Faber Piano Adventures with other music supplements based on student interest.

I expect students to practice at least 15 minutes and up to 45 minutes 4-5 times per week depending on age and ability. I provide lesson notes for reference throughout the week to aid practice.

Not ready for private lessons? I also teach piano lessons with the City of Portland – find my current course offerings here.
